Police Investigate Phone Call to Knoebels

An incident prompted an area of Knoebels Amusement Park to be cleared late Sunday.

Knoebels' first weekend of 2021 came to a close with authorities investigating a phone call that the amusement park received late Sunday.

Around 5:00pm, Sunday, law enforcement agencies were called the amusement park and certain areas of the park were cleared by security.  According to eyewitnesses at the park, the areas around the Phoenix Rollercoaster were cleared while the rest of the park continued to operate until it's regular closing time at 6:00pm.

A statement was later issued by the park acknowledging the incident but offered little details.

"Shortly before 5:00p.m. on April 25, Knoebels received a phone call that prompted contact with local authorities. In abundance of caution, the area has been cleared, and a thorough search of the affected area is being conducted. Local and state agencies are currently working together to confirm the credibility of the call and the identity of the individual involved. Due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, no further information is being released at this time at the direction of law enforcement agencies." according to the statement provided by the park.

Law enforcement has not released any details as of 8:00pm.

Sunday was the park's second day of opening for 2021.  Similar calls were received by the Coal Township Walmart on Friday afternoon and Saturday evening.   No word yet if the incidents are related.
