Fireworks to Blame for Small Brush Fire near Girardville Late Thursday

Girardville firefighters put out a small brush fire that was ignited by fireworks near the borough late Thursday.

Around 11:00pm, the Rangers Hose Company and Girard Hose Company were dispatched to the area of the "Y" intersection of West Mahanoy Avenue and Homesville Road near Homesville in Butler Township for a brush fire.

Girardville Fire Chief Frank Zangari was first on-scene and confirmed a small brush fire that had been started from a box of fireworks that had been lit.

It was unknown who lit the fireworks since they fled the scene before emergency personnel arrived.

Firefighters pulled a line from the fire truck and doused the flames as well as any smoldering materials.

The fire department used the small nature of the fire to allow new firefighters, Sharona Pentz and Cody Wagner, that recently finished their Mod 4 class to gain some experience in using a fire hose.

Butler Township Police also responded to the scene with everyone clearing within about a half an hour.
