Pottsville Man Leads State Police in Motorcycle Pursuit

A man from Pottsville led State Police in a pursuit on a motorcycle on Monday morning.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, just before 10:00am, Troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a red Kawasaki Ninja for an equipment violation.

The driver, later identified as Christopher Steckel, 32, of Pottsville, took off at a high rate of speed northbound on Route 61 through Pottsville.

Steckel turned onto Mill Creek Road and was forced to stop at the intersection with Market Street.

Steckel was taken into custody and found to have a suspended license for DUI and was also suspected of driving under the influence.

He was also found with a small amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and several bottles of alcohol.
