Mahanoy City National Night Out Aims to Build Police and Community Relationships

One of Schuylkill County's longest running National Night Out events continued Tuesday in Mahanoy City.

In 1999, Mahanoy City held it's first National Night Out and since then, the event was only cancelled twice, according to Borough Police Chief Mark Wiekrykas.

The event was organized by the Police Department and is meant to promote police-community partnerships to help make the community safer.

Participating with police were all of the borough's fire companies, the Washington Hook and Ladder, West and Fire/Rescue/Boat Rescue, Citizens Fire, Humane Fire, and Good American Fire, as well as the Schuylkill County Sheriff's Office and Reading Railroad Police.

Kids and adults were able to meet with law enforcement and first responders, as well as explore their vehicles and apparatus.
