Victim Identified in Fatal Route 61 Motorcycle Crash

The Pennsylvania State Police have released the identify of the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash on Route 61.

According to the Frackville Barracks, the crash occurred just after 11:00pm, Saturday, on Route 61 northbound/Skyline Drive in Blythe Township north of Saint Clair.

Troopers say Michael Smith, 47, of Minersville was traveling in the right lane of the roadway when he lost control when he was driving too fast for conditions.

Smith reportedly went off the right side of the roadway, laid the motorcycle onto it's left side and slid into the guide rail.

Smith sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by a member of the Schuylkill County Coroner's office.

Route 61 northbound was closed for several hours while the scene was cleared and investigated.

Assisting State Police at the scene and for traffic control were the Saint Clair Police Department, Saint Clair Fire Department, Schuylkill EMS, and Shenandoah EMS.
