Bomb Squad Called to Ashland Friday Morning After Suspicious Item Found

The Pennsylvania State Police Bomb Squad was called to Ashland Friday after a suspicious item was found in a home.

Just after 9:00am, Friday, police were called to the 1200 Block of Middle Street in Ashland after a suspicious item was found in a basement of home.

Ashland Police said that while a home was been cleaned out, a pipe was found with a long fuse coming out of it and packed with something.  

The person that found it, thought it might have been a pipe bomb and called for help.

Police from Ashland and Butler Township responded, closed down the street and the State Police Bomb Squad was called.

Troopers investigated found that the pipe was filled with fireworks.  The pipe and fireworks were properly detonated and remove by the bomb squad with the scene cleared by 11:30am.
