New Jersey Man Arrested by US Marshals for Columbia County Cold Case

An arrest was made in an over 20 year old murder case in Columbia County.

On Thursday, U.S. Marshal Martin Pane announced the arrest of Brian Gregory Quinn– a 44-year-old man with past addresses in Deptford and Gloucester City, New Jersey.

On January 13, 2001, the body of Shamar William Washington was found in Hemlock Township, Columbia County, Pennsylvania.

Washington was reported as missing from Williamsport, Pennsylvania six days prior. An autopsy revealed that Washington was beaten, stabbed, and shot.

The Pennsylvania State Police investigated the death until March 9, 2022, when they obtained an arrest warrant charging Quinn with Criminal Homicide. The U.S. Marshals Service (USMS) Fugitive Task Force was asked to apprehend him.

Today at about 6 a.m., the fugitive task force arrested Quinn in the 1300 block of Good Intent Road, Deptford, New Jersey without incident. He was turned over to Gloucester County authorities to await extradition to Pennsylvania.

United States Marshal Pane stated, “It’s the Marshals Services’ duty to ensure that those charged with violent crimes have their day in court. It is my sincere hope that the victim’s family will find some measure of comfort knowing the suspect will face justice.”

The USMS Fugitive Task Force in the Middle District of Pennsylvania is comprised of 21 state, county, and local police agencies, including: the Pennsylvania State Police; the Pennsylvania Board of Probation and Parole; the Berwick Police Department; the Williamsport Bureau of Police; the Lycoming County Adult Probation Office; and the Lycoming County Sheriff’s Office.
