One of Philadelphia's Most Wanted Fugitives Taken into Custody in Schuylkill County


A man who was wanted for a homicide in Philadelphia was taken into custody in Saint Clair on Thursday.

According to Saint Clair Police Chief William Dempsey, on Thursday, April 14th, 2022, around 4:15pm,  Saint Clair Police received credible information related to a wanted individual that was inside a residence in Saint Clair. 

The United States Marshals Middle Pennsylvania Fugitive Task Force Team of Scranton advised the individual was wanted by the Philadelphia Police Department for an outstanding murder warrant.

The homicide warrant was for an incident which took place on September 5, 2021 at 3:09 AM at 430 W. Indiana Avenue, Philadelphia, PA. Saint Clair Police were informed the fugitive was located inside a home on East Hancock Street in Saint Clair.

After a brief investigation, Saint Clair Police, joined by Port Carbon and Pottsville Police officers, entered the home and attempted to locate the hiding suspect, identified as Juan Rivera, 36, of Philadelphia.

Rivera was located hiding in the attic area of the residence. The suspect was taken into custody. Multiple local law enforcement agencies, the Schuylkill County Sheriff's Department and the Pennsylvania State Police assisted at the scene with the incident.

Prior to being taken into custody, Juan Rivera was listed on phillymostwanted.org as being one of the Philadelphia Area's Most Wanted Fugitives.

Rivera was then committed to the Schuylkill County Prison by on-call District Magisterial Judge David J. Rossi, Tremont to await extradition to Philadelphia.
