Pottsville Man Arrested for Robbing Man at Gunpoint


A Pottsville man is locked up in Schuylkill County Prison after he allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint.

According to Chief of Police, Richard Wojciechowsky, on Monday, May 23rd, 2022, Pottsville Police officers were dispatched to investigate a reported robbery in the area of the 500 block of W. Norwegian Street. 

The subsequent investigation showed that William John Murphy, 53, of Pottsville had brandished a black CO2 pistol identical in appearance to a popular firearm, at a 36-year-old Pottsville man and robbed the victim of $90.00. 

Murphy was taken into custody and found to be in possession of the stolen money. A search warrant was executed at Murphy’s place of residence, 519 W. Norwegian Street, where officers recovered the pistol used as well as various items of drug paraphernalia.

Ptlm Isaac Souchak prepared a criminal complaint charging Murphy with Robbery, Receiving Stolen Property, Possessing Instruments of Crime, Simple Assault, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Disorderly Conduct and Harassment. 

Murphy was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli and committed to the Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $75,000 straight cash bail
