Schuylkill County Law Enforcement Donates Bulletproof Vests to Ukraine

On Friday, a special presentation was held on the steps of St. Michael's Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Shenandoah.

A few months prior, O'Connor Law, of Frackville, reached out to Schuylkill County's law enforcement agencies asking for donations of helmets, body armor, bulletproof vests, boots, and other protective gear to assist Ukrainian military, fire fighters, police officers, and aid workers.

Thanks to three agencies, the police departments from Frackville, Branch Township, Pottsville, and Shenandoah donated 37 bullet resistant vests.

At Friday's presentation were Attorney Michael J. O'Connor, Pennsylvania State Senator David Argall, Shenandoah Mayor Andrew Szczyglak, Fr. Michael Hutsko, and Frackville Police Officer Anthony Kankowski.

"We are greatly disturbed and saddened by the images of the Ukraine on our nightly news.  We want to offer more than prayers to those brave people as they face the unprovoked invasion."  O'Connor said.

"It's important that we do this on our Independence Day as the Ukraine continues to fight for theirs" O'Connor added.

The vests were on display on the steps of the church while Father Hutsko blessed them.

O'Connor credited the effort with the help from Senator Argall, Senator Marty Flynn, Representative Tim Twardzik, and Representative Gerald Mullery.
