Wanted Fugitive Shot and Killed by US Marshal in Hazleton

A wanted fugitive was shot and killed by a US Marshal in Hazleton on Wednesday.

According to Pennsylvania State Police Public Information Officer from the Hazleton barracks, on Wednesday, August 10th, 2022, members of the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force were searching the Hazleton area for Jordan Charles Urenovitch, 23, of Hazle Township, who had active warrants for gun and drug charges through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF).

Around 12:40pm, the task force located Urenovitch, traveling in a car, exiting the vehicle, and walking into the 22nd Street Auto Center in Hazleton.

The task force approached and attempted to take Urenovitch into custody but a struggle occurred.  During the struggle, Urenovitch was able to free his arm, retrieve a firearm, and discharge a round from the weapon.

A member of the task force, a Deputy US Marshal, fired his service weapon, striking Urenovitch.

The task force provided medical assistance until EMS arrived and transported him to an area hospital.

Urenovitch was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The Pennsylvania State Police Troop N Major Case Team is handling the investigation into the incident.  Once their investigation is complete, it will be turned over to the Luzerne County District Attorney's Office for a ruling on the matter.
