Gordon Man Remains in Schuylkill County Prison After Shots Allegedly Fired Last Week

A Gordon man remains locked up in Schuylkill County Prison after being involved in an incident last week.

According to court documents, on Tuesday, October 26th, 2022, just after 11:30am, Police were dispatched to the area of Royer and McKnight Streets in Gordon for a report of shots fired.

Units from Butler Township, Ashland, Frackville, Pennsylvania State Police, Schuylkill County Detectives, and Schuylkill County Adult Probation responded to the scene.

When police arrived, they spoke with several employees from Universal Forrest Products, who said they overheard a man and woman arguing up the street, then 3 to 4 gunshots, and a woman began yelling "He's shooting at me".

Officers spoke with the woman involved.

The woman told police she went to 515 Mcknight, to speak with Joseph Monaghan, 41, who she is in a relationship with.  The woman denied any gunshots.

Monaghan was summoned by police from the home, and he exited without further incident and taken into custody.

A search warrant was obtained for the home, and later that day was executed, which led to the finding of an air/pump pellet rifle, a 20-gauge shotgun, as well as an additional shotgun.  All the firearms were seized as Monaghan is prohibited from possessing firearms due to his criminal history.

Monaghan was charged by Butler Township Police with person not to possess a firearm, aggravated assault, making terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct, and harassment.

Monaghan was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli on the above charges and locked up in Schuylkill County Prison on $75,000 straight cash bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for November 9th, 2022, before Judge Tarantelli.
