North Tops South in Schuylkill County Football All Star Game



Our area's high school football season came to a close Wednesday evening with the Schuylkill County Coaches Association All Star Football Game.

The game, sponsored by the Lehigh Valley Health Network, split the county into two teams, the North and the South.

The North Team consisted of Senior players from Shenandoah Valley, Mahanoy Area, Tamaqua Area, Marian Catholic, Jim Thorpe, North Schuylkill, Lehighton, and Panther Valley.  The team was coached by Tamaqua Head Coach Sam Bonner.

The South Team consisted of Senior players from Pottsville, Blue Mountain, Nativity BVM, Minersville, Pine Grove, Schuylkill Haven, Tri-Valley, and Williams Valley.

Senior cheerleaders from both teams also cheered.

The teams went back and forth score for score throughout the game and it wasn't until the fourth quarter when the North would pull ahead and hold the leading winning 34-28 over the south team.

MVPs for the game were:

  •  Jared Tinari from North Schuylkill for the North Team
  •  Brady Evans from Williams Valley for the South Team

Lineman of the game were:

  • Ian Donohue from Blue Mountain for the South Team
  • Ryan Snyder from Tamaqua for the North Team
At halftime, the Schuylkill County Specialist Awards were presented by John Zima of Kick-It Football and Republican Herald Sports Editor Leroy Boyer
  • 1st Place - Gavin Mentzer from North Schuylkill
  • 2nd Place - Evan Karenda from Pine Grove
  • 3rd Place - Kreese Stablein from Blue Mountain
