Lois E. Becker, 84, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Saturday, January 28th, at Orwigsburg Center, Orwigsburg.

Lois was born in Pottsville, PA on April 27, 1938, a daughter of the late Thelma (Heinbaugh) Heffner and David Heffner.

She was the widow of Robert Alan Becker Sr. who died in 2016. Also preceded her in death are two sons Robert Jr and Richard.

She was a member of Grace Evangelical Congregational Church Schuylkill Haven, PA .

Lois retired as the main cook in the cafeteria for Schuylkill Haven School District

Lois is survived by two daughters, Lynn, wife of David Everly, of Orwigsburg PA; Lisa, wife of William Kline, of Schuylkill Haven, two sons Ronald, husband of Janice Becker, of Bethlehem; Rodney, husband of Kerrie Becker, of Palmyra.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, February 6th at Geschwindt Stabingas Ebling Funeral Home, Inc in Schuylkill Haven, PA with Rev. Ted Rathman officiating. A viewing for family and friends will be 9:30 - 10:30 am prior to services.

The family prefers remembrances in the form of contributions to Grace Evangelical Church Jefferson Street and Stoyer Drive Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972.

Interment at Schuylkill Memorial Park Schuylkill Haven, PA.

Mr. Thomas J. "Tommy" Macaluso
, age 78, of Mahanoy City, passed away Saturday at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill in Pottsville. 

Born at the former Locust Mountain Hospital, he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary (Thorton) Macaluso. He was a graduate of Bridgeport High School in Connecticut where his family resided briefly. He had been employed by Jetson Direct Mail of Hamburg. He was a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Church in Mahanoy City and a social member of American Legion Post 74 also of Mahanoy City. He enjoyed watching football especially his New York Giants. Preceding him in death in addition to her parents were a brother Gerald and a sister Geraldine. 

He is survived by his wife of 49 years the former Patricia Whalen, 2 sons Michael of Shamokin and Mark and his wife Sara of Mahanoy City, grandchildren Riley, Kaitlyn, Ella and Luke, nieces, nephews, cousins and a brother-in-law Joseph Whalen and his wife Lisa of William Penn. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by the Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher of Friday morning at 10 AM from St. Teresa of Calcutta Church. 

Interment will follow in St. Canicus Cemetery in Mahanoy Township. Friends may call at the church on Friday morning beginning at 9 AM until time of Mass. 

In lieu of flowers contributions in his name to Hillside SPCA 51 SPCA Road, Pottsville, PA 17901 would be appreciated by the family and will be accepted at the visitation. David D. Jarrett Funeral Home of Mahanoy City is in charge of arrangements.

Jeanne E. Matz
, age 98, of Reading and formerly of Delano, passed away Friday. 

Born in Delano she was the daughter of the late Warren and Laura (Kistler) Patterson. She was a graduate of Delano High School and worked as a homemaker. She was a member of Faith UCC Church in Delano and the ladies guild of the church, the Mahantango Chapter of the NSDAR. She was also a member of the Delano Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Russell, a son John R. Smith and 3 brothers Robert, James and Joseph Patterson. 

She is survived by a daughter Susan Erdman and her husband Gerald of Reading and a son James Matz and his wife Frances of Fairport NY, 4 grandchildren Mark and Matthew Erdman, Justin Matz and Jacqueline Patterson, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild as well as nieces and nephews. 

Services will be privately held from David D. Jarrett Funeral Home of Mahanoy City with interment in Christ Church Cemetery in Rush Township.

Cheryl Sue Culpepper, 77, of Port Carbon, passed away, Sunday January 29, 2023, at LVHN – Hazleton.

Born in Hickory Ridge, AR, January 13, 1946, She was a daughter of the late Cecil and Anice (Manning) Courtney.

Cheryl was a 1963 graduate from Hickory Ridge High School. She retired as a manager at Southwestern Bell in Little Rock, Arkansas.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husband Harry. J. Culpepper, brother Tommy Culpepper, sister Mary Holbeck and granddaughter Katie McIllwain.

Surviving are her son Doug McIllwain and his wife Theresa of Port Carbon and grandaughter Sammie D’Souza and her husband Kevin of Orwigsburg.

Funeral Services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Huntington’s Disease Society of America at www.hdsa.org

The family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to Dr. Benyo and the entire staff at Weatherwood Nursing Home where she resided for 8 years. Thank you also to Hospice for caring for her during the last few days.
