Search and Seizure Warrant Leads to Drug Arrest in Mahanoy City


A Mahanoy City man is facing drug charges after authorities executed a search and seizure warrant late Wednesday.

On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, members of the Pennsylvania State Police and Schuylkill County District Attorney’s Office, Drug Task Force conducted a joint investigation which resulted in the execution of a Court Authorized Search and Seizure Warrant on a residence located within the Borough of Mahanoy City.

Seized during the search of the residence were quantities of fentanyl, oxycontin and other controlled substances. Also seized were quantities of United States currency.

As a result of the aforementioned seizure, Francis Leonard Merva, 57, of Mahanoy City, was charged with violations of the Controlled Substance, Drug, Device and Cosmetic Act and Pennsylvania Crimes Code as follows:
  • Possession With the Intent to Deliver (fentanyl)
  • Possession With the Intent to Deliver (oxycontin)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (fentanyl)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance (oxycontin)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
Merva was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge, the Honorable Stephen J. Bayer, Tamaqua, and locked up in Schuylkill County Prison on $50,000 straight cash bail.
