January 2022

On January 1st, 2022, a new chapter began in Pottsville with the swearing in of the city's new mayor, Dave Clews.

On January 8th, 2022, Pottsville Firefighters celebrated the life of John David Wollyung, 57, who died suddenly.



February 2022

On February 14th, 2022, Firefighters battled temperatures in the single digits and a multi-alarm fire that destroyed multiple buildings in Ringtown.

On Monday, February 21st, 2022, the Borough of Frackville swore in new Chief of Police, Paul Olson.

On February 28th, 2022, the Schuylkill County Special Olympics Team took on the team from Avenues.


March 2022

On March 4th, 2022, the Shenandoah Valley High School Boys Basketball team won the Class 2A District XI Championship.

Also on March 4th, the Marian Catholic Girls Basketball team won the Class A District XI Championship.

On March 28th, 2022, one of the largest mass casualty incidents occurred in Schuylkill County when an 80-vehicle pileup occurred on Interstate 81 northbound near mile marker 116.  The crash took the lives of 6 people.



April 2022

On April 23rd, 2022, the first Yuengling Light Lager 5k since the pandemic was held in Pottsville and drew thousands of runners and beer loves to the city.



May 2022

On May 2nd, 2022, an Axe Throwing Bar and a Skate Shop won the first ever Launch Pottsville Entrepreneur Competition in Pottsville.

On May 10th, 2022, North Schuylkill held their annual Spartan Games.  This was also the first games held since the pandemic.

On May 14th, 2022, the Pottsville Soap Box Derby, the "Thrill on the Hill" was held.

On May 16th, 2022, High School students at Mahanoy Area received a life lesson when the Mahanoy City Fire Department held a mock DUI crash simulating the dangers of drunk driving.




June 2022

On Monday, June 20th, Pottsville held their annual Safety Night Out.

On Friday, June 24th, 2022, a group of nearly 50 women and men gathered on the steps of the Schuylkill County Courthouse to protest the Dobbs v. Jackson ruling by the United State Supreme Court.



July 2022

On July 1st, 2022, O'Connor Law with the help of Schuylkill County Law Enforcment donated bulletproof vests to the Ukraine.

On July 4th, 2022, Port Carbon held their annual Fourth of July Parade.

On July 10th, 2022, the Yuengling Summer Celebration drew thousands of people to the music event that was headlined by Lee Brice.


August 2022

On August 2nd, 2022, a Tremont Dentist was taken into custody on several charges of sexual misconduct at his practice.

On August 13th, 2022, Ringtown Valley Fire-Rescue held their first block party after a several year hiatus.


September 2022

On Wednesday, September 7th, 2022, Dustin's Adventureland, Schuylkill County's first All-Inclusive Playground opened in Minersville.

On Saturday, September 10th, 2022, Schuylkill County Firefighters participated in the Schuylkill County Firefighters Convention in Shenandoah.



October 2022

On October 7th, 2022, Mrs. T's Pierogies celebrated National Pierogy Day by hoisting a flag at Shenandoah Borough Hall.



On October 8th, 2022, the Special Olympics Team Schuylkill Flag Football played the Nativity BVM Varsity Football Team.



November 2022

On November 1st, 2022, Schuylkill County and Ashland law enforcement came together with a youth center in Ashland to hold a special appreciation night.

On Friday, November 4th, 2022, Bixler Pyrotechnics held their annual Veterans Dinner at the Lavelle Church of the Nazarene.



December 2022

On December 8th, 2022, Schuylkill County Firefighters participated in the procession of New Tripoli Firefighters, Marvin Gruber, 59, and Assistant Fire Chief Zachary Paris, who died in a fire in West Penn Township.
