Eva Elmira Beury, 101 years, of Ashland passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her family, on Sunday morning, Feb. 19, 2023.

Born July 23, 1921, in Spring Glen to the late William R. and S. Alma (Coleman) Schwalm, Eva graduated from Hubley High School in 1939.

She owned and operated the Beury Insurance Agency in Ashland from 1967 to 1988. She was an extremely active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, especially in the choir, WELCA, quilting, and the alter guild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Lamar Beury, her daughter, Alyce E. Klock, and her seven siblings, Mae Frye, Ray Schwalm, Hilda Harner, James Schwalm, Elva Huntzinger, Leroy Schwalm, Charles Schwalm, and their spouses.

Left to treasure Eva’s memory are her grandchildren, Kathy Rowe (Daniel) and Ken Klock (Jennifer), and her son-in-law Fred Klock (Carol).

Eva is also survived by her seven great grandchildren, Timothy Rowe (Stephanie), Benjamin Rowe, Elizabeth Rowe, Sean Klock, Timothy Klock, Mason Klock, and Emily Klock.

She will be greatly missed by numerous friends and family who loved her dearly.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 22nd from 6:00-9:00 PM and Thursday, February 23rd from 1:00-2:00 PM at the funeral home. A funeral service will follow on Thursday, February 23rd at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church at 2:00 PM. Burial will be at Christ Church Cemetery-Fountain Springs.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eva Beury’s memory to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 35 N 9th St, Ashland PA 17921.

Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home Inc, 901 Centre St, Ashland PA 17921 has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Lee Miller, of Schuylkill Haven, passed away Saturday February 18th at Geisinger St. Luke's-Orwigsburg. She was the last remaining member of her immediate family. 

Lee was born and raised in Pottsville and attended schools there prior to moving to Cressona and finally Orwigsburg. Due to ongoing health issues, she retired from Penn State Schuylkill Campus where she was the staff assistant in the SET Department. 

Lee is preceded in death by her father, Leo Harrison Miller and mother, Jeanette Loraine (Bowers) Miller. 

At the request of Lee, services will be private and entrusted to the Hamilton-Breiner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., Orwigsburg.

Elsie Mae Docherty, 87, of Centre Street, Ashland, former Girardville resident, passed away February 18, 2023, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

The Richard W. Fritz Funeral Home, Ashland, will announce funeral arrangements.
