Mary Alice Davis, 89, of Ashland, passed away Sunday, March 12th at Holland Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing.

She was born on January 7, 1934 in Ashland and was the daughter of the late Miriam I. (Howenstine) and G. Chester Davis.

Mary Alice graduated from Ashland High School in 1951.

Mary Alice was an active member of Bethany E.C. Church in Ashland.

She last worked for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in Harrisburg prior to her retirement.

In addition to her parents, Mary Alice is preceded in death by her nephew David Shelkey.

She is survived by her sister Sandra Shelkey and nephew Mark Shelkey both of Langhorne.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Julia Majetsky, age 92, of Trenton, passed away Saturday at Maple Shade Meadows, Nesquehoning. 

Born in Trenton she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Sapar. She was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church in Mahanoy City. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph and a son Stephen. She is survived by a son Joseph and his wife Marie and a son Richard. Three grandchildren Amanda Yaari and Jeremy Majetsky and Megan Majetsky. Four great grandchildren, Madeleine and Caroline Yaari, Gavin Majetsky and Carter Friel as well as nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Divine Liturgy with Office of Christian Burial to be celebrated by the Rev. James Carroll on Saturday morning at 10:30 AM From St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. 

Friends may call at the church on Saturday morning beginning at 9 AM. 

Contributions in her name to Saint Luke's Hospice, 801 Ostrum St., Bethlehem, PA 18015.

Sadie M. Litsch RN
, 88, of Mahanoy City, passed away peacefully Friday March 10, 2023. 

 Born July 19, 1934, in Shenandoah, PA, she was the daughter of Richard and Grace Hassan. She graduated from Shenandoah Catholic High School, and The Sacred Heart School of Nursing, Allentown. After graduating she was employed by Philadelphia State General Hospital, Intensive Care Unit in the Locust Mountain Hospital. Shenandoah, Intensive Care Unit Hazleton State Hospital, Intensive Care unit Coaldale State Hospital/Miner Memorial Hospital, Coaldale before retiring. She was also employed by General Cigar Co., Mahanoy City as an Industrial Nurse. She was a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Church, Mahanoy City. She was a devoted Eucharistic Minister, and a member of the Woman's Sodality. Sadie was also a member of the Catholic Nurses Guild, and the Mahanoy City Golden Age Club. One of Sadie's favorite pleasures was sharing peanut butter, Chocolate, and lemon desserts with her loving grandchildren. She was an avid fan of Notre Dame and the Pittsburgh Steelers football teams. Sadie enjoyed many hours of socializing with her friends and family and playing bingo and traveling on the local bus trips to casinos. 

Preceding her in death were her parents Richard and Grace Hassan, her husband George Litsch, her daughter in law Lori Litsch, and a brother Joseph Hassan. 

She is survived and will be greatly missed by her son George and his wife Diane of Tamaqua, her son Sean Litsch of Mahanoy City, her granddaughter Erin Litsch and her husband Michael Mullen of Allentown, and her grandson Nathan of Wilkes Barre. Her sister Mary Richards and husband Ralph of Mahanoy City, her sister Mildred (Millie) Krupilis of Brandonville and her sister Jeanie Maxian of Yardley, as well as nieces and nephews. 

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated by the Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher on Monday morning at 10 AM from St. Teresa of Calcutta Church in Mahanoy City, Interment will follow in St. Canicus Cemetery in Mahanoy Township. Friends may call the church beginning at 8:30 AM until time of Mass.

Susan P Hanawalt
passed away on Sunday morning at St. Luke's Miners Memorial Medical Center in Coaldale.

Born March 20, 1951 the daughter of the late Albert Edgar and Patricia (Donnelly) Hanawalt.

Surviving are; daughter, Melissa Freedman; sons, Kerry, and Jesse Freedman; sister, Patricia D. Hanawalt; brothers, James Hanawalt and his wife Linda, John Hanawalt and his wife Patti ; grandchildren, Cory, Alyssa, Vincent, Sadie; great grandchildren, Elena, and Lyla. Many nieces, nephews, and friends also survive Susan.

A graduate of Mechanicsburg High School, Susan attended Harrisburg Community College. She worked at Lehigh County Children and Youth as a Fiscal Tech for 30 years.

Susan was also a caregiver for several elderly people. She put her heart into whatever she was doing and brightened many people's lives with her spirit of generosity. She loved her family and watching her grandchildren. She was an environmentalist at heart and would clean up trash and recycle anything recyclable to "keep the earth a beautiful place." She donated blood regularly. She selflessly loved and cared for animals. She faithfully attended First Church of the Nazarenes in Allentown PA and enjoyed fellowship with her dear friends regularly. Susan will be forever in our hearts.

Etta L. Coles
, 92, of Williamstown passed away peacefully, Sunday night, March 12, 2023, at the Tremont Health and Rehab Center.

Born in Wiconisco, October 27, 1930, a daughter of the late John Sr. and Ruth Myers Calnon. Etta was a 1948 graduate of the former Williamstown High School.

She was a retired seamstress working in the local garment industry in Wiconisco and Williamstown.

Etta was a member of the Williamstown United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star Glenn Chapter, Lykens, where she was past Worthy Matron. She was also a social member of the Williamstown American Legion.

Etta enjoyed word searches, playing cards with her family, watching Hallmark movies, and having breakfast at the Williamstown American Legion with her friends. Etta will be remembered for her smile and her cheerful and outgoing personality.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Donald F. Coles, 2016; a son-in-law, David Neidlinger, 2021; a brother John Calnon, Jr.

Surviving are her daughter, Cheryl A. Neidlinger, Williamstown; a son, Donald Frank Coles, Jr. (Denise), Tower City; grandchildren, Shelby Stence (William), Elizabethville, Steven Tucci, Mount Joy, and William Tucci, Millersburg; great grandchildren, Benjamin Fennell, William and Ian Stence, and Patrick and Morgan Tucci; four great great grandchildren. Etta is also survived by Tony and Greer Aukstakalnis whom she considered family.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 11:00 AM from the Williamstown United Methodist Church with Pastor Amanda Bressler officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Williamstown. Viewing will be held from 10-11 at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Williamstown United Methodist Church, East St, Williamstown, PA 17098.
