Investigation Continues into Cause of Dollar General Fire in Shenandoah

Investigators were at the scene of Monday afternoon's fire at the Shenandoah Dollar General Store.

Around 4:00pm, Monday, emergency personnel were called to Dollar General Store in Shenandoah's Gold Star Plaza for a report of paper products on fire in the rear of the store.

The first firefighters on scene reported smoke showing.

The fire quickly grew with thick black smoke billowing from all ends of the store as firefighters prepared to attack.

A 2nd alarm was issued for manpower as well as a 3rd alarm tanker task force due to water issues from nearby fire hydrants.

It took firefighters 2 hours to bring the fire under control, but the store sustained extensive damage.

Fire Chief Rick Examitas and the State Police Fire Marshals were back on scene early Tuesday to investigate the cause.

Chief Examitas said the investigation was focused on the rear of the store where it was reported that the fire started, but no cause had been determined.

Examitas and the fire marshals are asking anyone that may have been in the store at the time of the fire contact the State Police at Frackville Barracks and ask to speak with Trooper Joseph Hall.
