BUSINESSES OF THE SKOOK: Kitty Lou Boutique

BUSINESSES OF THE SKOOK: Kitty Lou Boutique, 205 West Market Street, Pottsville.

Owned by: Jackie Schoenfelder Demcher.

"My business has been all about growth over the past 15 years. I started selling children’s clothing and accessories but as my business progressed and my daughters got older, my business grew with them, and I decided to branch into the women’s fashion industry.

I also outgrew my house with product and inventory, so about two years ago I started selling in some local brick and mortar shops. This gave me a chance to expand my customer base and experience retail life at another level. Over time, it continued to grow and so did the porch pick-ups. This was when my husband finally said, “it’s time!” and we started looking for a permanent location in Pottsville.

Before I opened the doors, the very first thing I did was join the Schuylkill County Chamber of Commerce and they have been wonderful and such an asset to the business community.

I have been in downtown Pottsville a little over a month and it has been awesome! It’s been great to see so many familiar faces and even better to see a lot of new ones. I feel loved, I feel blessed, the community has been amazing, and I couldn’t have asked for a better welcome.

My grandmother’s name is Kitty Lou, and back in 1969 my grandparents had a candy store in downtown Pottsville. It has always been a dream of mine to follow in their footsteps, and my grandmother, she’s great, she is so stylish and one of kind I just knew her name would be a perfect fit for the shop.

My goal is to make all women feel comfortable, confident and stylish. I love the interaction I have with my customers.

As for advice for others wanting to start a business? “Go for it, it’s worth the risk and believe in yourself!"
