"Christmas in July" Theme to Grace the Annual Pioneer Days Celebration at Pioneer Tunnel

ASHLAND - The annual Pioneer Days at the historic Pioneer Tunnel in Ashland will be infused with some Christimas spirit this year.

Mark your calendars for this Saturday as the festivities kick off at the Pioneer Tunnel and nearby Higher Ups Park in Ashland.

With a lineup of attractions, over 40 craft and food vendors are set to participate in the event, offering a diverse range of products and treats for visitors to enjoy. But that's not all! Santa Claus himself, accompanied by none other than the Grinch, will be making a special appearance to spread the cheer and joy of the holiday season in the midst of summer.

Adding a touch of nostalgia and historical significance to the celebration, the coal miner Breaker Boys will be present at the event, regaling audiences with captivating stories of their experiences and enthralling everyone with their tunes.

Musical entertainment will also be provided by the Strange Agents.

For those interested in exploring the history of coal mining, the Pioneer Tunnel itself will be open for continuous tours, allowing guests to gain a deeper understanding of the industry that once thrived in the region. Additionally, visitors can hop aboard the Steam Train tours for an immersive experience that truly encapsulates the essence of this heritage.

And let's not forget, the Pioneer Tunnel gift shop will remain open, offering visitors a chance to take home unique mementos and souvenirs from this remarkable occasion.

Parking will be available adjacent to the Pioneer Tunnel, but due to limited space, attendees are encouraged to arrive early. To accommodate the influx of visitors, an alternative parking option with a convenient shuttle service will be provided by Rohrer, located in the Brigade Manufacturing (Former Gitman Bros.) parking lot on Centre Street next to Memorial Field.

The Pioneer Days celebration with its Christmas in July Theme promises to be an unforgettable experience, bringing together the local community and visitors from far and wide. So come one, come all, and join in the merriment as we celebrate the historical significance and enduring legacy of Pennsylvania's Coal Region.

Saturday's event might not be the only time Santa Claus stops by the Pioneer Tunnel this year.  The Pioneer Tunnel gave us some insight on a future event at the tunnel, but you'll have to stay tuned to find out more later.
