Bradford County Man Charged for Stealing Jewelry from Schuylkill County Jeweler

A man from Bradford County has been charged with stealing over $1,000 worth of jewelry from a store in Pottsville last week.

According to Pottsville Police, on Monday, September 11, 2023, The Pottsville Bureau of Police was able to obtain a warrant for the arrest of Randolf Jay Reiger, age 35, of Rome, Pennsylvania as a result a brief investigation in a felony grade Retail Theft investigation.

Police say on Wednesday September 6th, 2023, just before 3:00pm, the Pottsville Bureau of Police responded to Murphy’s Jewelers in reference to a customer who failed to pay for several items of jewelry.

Upon arrival at this location, officers learned that a male wearing a surgical mask entered the store in an apparent attempt to purchase various pieces of jewelry valued at approx. $1,500.00 dollars.

However, the suspect fled on foot without paying for the items.

With the assistance of local community members, and businesses who provided access to their video surveillance systems as well as other investigative means, Reiger was identified as the suspect.

Reiger was eventually taken into custody on an unrelated matter by members of the Sayre Police Department located in Bradford County where he was found to be in the possession of the stolen pieces of jewelry from Murphy’s Jewelers.

During a brief conversation with the Detective Division, Reiger admitted to committing this crime and failing to pay for the merchandise.

Arrangements are being made to take Reiger into custody pursuant to the criminal complaint approved by Magisterial District Judge James Reiley, Pottsville.
