Northern Schuylkill County Communities Secure $20,000 State Grant for Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Update

Mahanoy City Borough and surrounding townships set to revitalize region with municipal assistance program funding.
Northern Schuylkill County is gearing up for a transformation as Mahanoy City Borough, along with Delano, Mahanoy, and Ryan Townships, announced plans to collaborate on a comprehensive plan and zoning update, fueled by a $20,000 state grant from the Municipal Assistance Program. Senator Dave Argall made the announcement on Wednesday.

"Through this highly competitive state funding, Mahanoy City and the neighboring townships are poised to rejuvenate the entire region," stated Argall. "This grant represents a crucial step in building the future of northern Schuylkill County."

The Municipal Assistance Program, administered by the Department of Community and Economic Development, has a primary mission of providing financial support to local governments for the planning and execution of vital services and enhancements.

This announcement follows a significant milestone earlier this year when Mahanoy City Borough successfully emerged from the Act 47 program for distressed municipalities. The borough's seven-year endeavor to improve operations and financial stability was made possible through the collaborative efforts of local state legislators and the Department of Community and Economic Development.

In recognition of their outstanding work, they were honored with a Responding to Adversity Award.
