Pine Grove Man Charged After Striking Woman with Shovel and Vehicle

A Pine Grove man is locked up in Schuylkill County Prison after he allegedly struck a woman with a shovel and vehicle earlier this month.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, on October 4th, 2023, around 11:00am, responded to a report of an assault on Cardinal Road in Pine Grove Township.

Troopers say Paul Shearer, 49, of Pine Grove, and a female were involved in an argument that turned physical.

During the argument, Shearer retried a shovel and struck the woman in the leg causing a contusion.  He then got into the woman's vehicle.  When she attempted to stop Shearer from taking the vehicle, he struck her with it, and continued to drive while she held onto the vehicle dragging her for approximately 100 feet.

Shearer fled the scene and was taken into custody two days later.

He was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge David Rossi on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and harassment.

He was then locked up in Schuylkill County Prison unable to post $50,000 straight cash bail.
