Annual Tree-Decorating Contest Takes Center Stage at Schuylkill County Historical Society

The festive spirit is in full swing as the Schuylkill County Historical Society gears up for its annual tree-decorating contest.

A diverse array of entries promises to transform the historical hub into a winter wonderland, featuring submissions from the Stanhope School, St. Clair Community & Historical Society, Minersville Area Historical Society, Auburn Area Historical Society, and the Schuylkill County Council for the Arts.

The showcase will be hosted at the Society's headquarters located at 305 N. Centre St., Pottsville.

The grand unveiling is set for Wednesday, Nov. 22, coinciding with the city’s festive lighting ceremony. Doors will be open until 7 p.m.  To add to the merriment, complimentary hot chocolate will be served to all attendees.

Visitors are not just passive observers; they hold the power to influence the outcome. From Nov. 22 until Wednesday, Jan. 10, patrons can cast their votes for their favorite trees. Each vote comes at a cost of $1, with the proceeds going to the participating organization associated with the chosen tree. This unique voting system adds an interactive element to the festivities while supporting local nonprofits.

In addition to the vibrant display, the Historical Society invites contributions of Schuylkill County-oriented memorabilia for its own themed tree.

For those eager to partake in the seasonal revelry, the Society’s operating hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Wednesday through Friday. During the months of November and December, the doors will also be open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
