Barrier Installation to Temporarily Impact Traffic on Interstate 81 North and Route 443 near Pine Grove

Drivers should expect delays on Interstate 81 northbound as well as the underpass on Route 443 next week in Pine Grove Township.
The affected stretch of Interstate 81 North, spanning from Exit 90 (PA 72) to Exit 104 (PA 125), will face nighttime closures starting from 9 PM on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, through 5 AM on Thursday, December 21, 2023. The closure is necessary for the installation of a barrier on the bridge over PA 443 at Exit 100. During this period, motorists traveling north on I-81 will be rerouted to exit and re-enter the highway at Exit 100 (PA 443). Commuters are advised to anticipate delays and exercise caution while traversing the area.

Additionally, the northbound shoulder on the I-81 bridge over PA 443 will remain closed until further notice, as repair efforts continue. The repairs are expected to be completed by December 21, 2023, weather permitting.

Simultaneously, PA 443, situated between the Interstate 81 North Ramp and Interstate 81 South Ramp, will experience lane reductions with flaggers controlling traffic during the same timeframe. Beginning on December 20, 2023, at 9 PM and concluding on December 21, 2023, at 5 AM, workers will install a concrete barrier on the overhead I-81 bridge. Motorists are urged to expect delays and exercise caution when navigating through the work zone.

The damaged beam on the PA 443 bridge, resulting from the same vehicular incident on November 1, 2023, is slated for repair in the spring of 2024, with a new beam anticipated to be installed during that time.
