Frackville Man Faces Charges for Stealing Vehicle

A Frackville man is locked up in Schuylkill County Prison for stealing a vehicle.

According to Frackville Police, on Monday, January 8, 2024, the Frackville Police Department investigated three separate incidents involving Christoper Contreras, 35, of Frackville.

Around 7:30pm, Contreras engaged in a domestic disturbance in the 400 block of W. Pine Street in the Borough of Frackville, where he fled the residence when the victim called police. The victim stated that Contreras was wearing a black hoodie, black sweatpants, and glasses when he fled.

Around 7:45pm, a male wearing the same clothing as Contreras stole a vehicle that had been parked in the unit block of North Nice Street with the engine running and unlocked. The victim of the vehicle theft provided a similar clothing description as Contreras was wearing. The stolen vehicle was a gold in color 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt with passenger side damage.

A third incident occurred at 9:15pm, when a male was prowling around and exiting an enclosed carport located in the 1400 block of Railroad Street in the Borough of Gilberton.

After fleeing the area, the victim/homeowner located the male hitchhiking near 2014 Main Street in the Borough of Gilberton. Officer Reno took the male, identified as Contreras, into custody without issue.

Officer Reno located the stolen vehicle near where Contreras was last seen after fleeing from the Railroad Street residence.

Contreras was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Rossi on one count of Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Receiving Stolen Property.

Contreras was unable to post the $50,000 cash bail and was remanded to the Schuylkill County Prison.

Additional charges will be filed for Contreras’ involvement in the domestic disturbance and the prowling incident.
