Pillow Man Loses Life Saving Son-in-Law in Dauphin County Crash

A Pillow man died early Thursday after saving his son-in-law in a Dauphin County crash.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Lykens, the crash occurred on January 11th, 2024, around 5:15am, on Route 225 near Roller Road in Washington Township, Dauphin County between Berrysburg and Elizabethville.

Troopers say John Reyes, 33, of Pillow, was driving south on Route 225 in a Nissan Versa when he failed to negotiate a left curve, went off the road, struck an embankment, and struck a tree stump.  The vehicle then spun around and overturned onto its passenger side.

The vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage and became engulfed in flames.

A passenger in the vehicle, Kevin Geary, 60, also of Pillow was able to crawl out of the vehicle through the windshield, then pulled Reyes out, who was on fire.

Geary used his jacket to smother the flames on Reyes but collapsed shortly after.  Geary passed away and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Dauphin County Coroner's office.

Reyes was transported and flown to an area hospital with serious injuries.  The accident is still under investigation.

CORRECTION:  This story was originally posted that Reyes and Geary were "friends".   Geary was Reyes Father in Law.
