DISTRICT XI: Mahanoy Area Boys Continue Dominance in Quarterfinal Win Over Williams Valley



On Saturday, the Mahanoy Area Golden Bears showcased their teamwork as they faced the Williams Valley Vikings in the District XI 2A Boys Basketball Quarterfinal. 

The game, which took place at Martz Hall, saw the top-seeded Mahanoy Area maintain their undefeated record against the 8th seeded Williams Valley, clinching a victory with a final score of 90-45.

Mahanoy Area wasted no time asserting their authority on the court. From the opening minutes, they surged ahead, capitalizing on their offensive opportunities to take an early lead. By the midpoint of the first quarter, Mahanoy Area had already established a commanding advantage, leading 9-4 with 4:33 remaining on the clock.

Undeterred by Williams Valley's efforts to rally, Mahanoy Area continued to dictate the tempo of the game, extending their lead further as the first quarter progressed. By the end of the quarter, they had amassed a 14-11 lead.

As the second quarter unfolded, Mahanoy Area's offensive onslaught showed no signs of stopping. The Golden Bears were relentless, leaving their opponents trailing in their wake. By halftime, Mahanoy Area had surged ahead to a commanding 42-17 lead.

The third quarter witnessed a continuation of Mahanoy Area's dominance, as they maintained their relentless pace and offensive efficiency. By the end of the quarter, Mahanoy Area had built a 69-31 lead.

Mahanoy Area walked away with the 90-45 win and advances to play Tri-Valley on Wednesday at Martz Hall in the District XI Class 2A Semifinals.

Led by Tanner Zawada's 19 points, supported by Brody Alansky (15 points), Kadin Styka (14 points), Jace Yedsena (14 points), Chris Cuff (10 points), and Ethan Manley (9 points), Mahanoy Area demonstrated their collective strength and teamwork.

Williams Valley's scoring was led by Alex Achenbach (12 points), Brady Shomper (10 points), and Gavin Sutton (9 points).
