Woman with Rifle Taken into Custody After Brief Standoff in Pottsville

A woman was taken into custody early Monday after a brief standoff in Pottsville.

According to Pottsville Police, on Monday, February 19th, 2024, around 3:50am, Pottsville Police were dispatched to the Pottsville Motor Inn, room 201, for a report of a female in distress, possessing a shotgun.

Upon arrival, Pottsville Police were able to identify the female as 32-year-old Joelle Boris. Officers attempted contact at room 201 to speak with Boris, however there was no answer at the door.

When police made entry into the room, five .22 caliber rounds were observed in plain view, scattered throughout the area of the room. It was determined Boris had barricaded herself in the bathroom. 

After approximately one hour of negotiating with Boris, she exited the bathroom peacefully and was taken into custody. It was during this time, suspected Methamphetamine was recovered from Boris, as was a blue in color smoking pipe.

Inside the bathroom where Boris was located, in the bathtub, a Ruger 10/22 Carbine .22 Caliber long rifle was recovered.

Pottsville Police requested a warrant of arrest for Boris from on-call Magisterial District Judge Andrew Serena charging her with Person Not to Possess a firearm, use of a firearm, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
