A Minersville 18-year-old has been charged for vandalizing the borough's recreation complex last year.

According to Minersville Police Sgt. Jeffrey Bowers and Pltm. Kavanaugh, Juells Becton, 18, of Minersville was charged on April 16th, 2024, with institutional vandalism, illegal possession, and criminal mischief for the incident that occurred on December 22nd, 2023.

Ptlm. Kavanaugh wrote in his affidavit filed through Magisterial District Judge David Plachko's office that on December 22nd, Minersville Police were made aware of vandalism done at the Minersville Area Recreation Complex and swimming pool where several spray-painted markings were done at numerous buildings owned by the borough.

Police were able to obtain surveillance video that showed two people spray painting signs in the playground areas on December 17th, 2023.

One of the suspects, Becton, would be identified and brought into the station to be question.  Becton would admit to committing the vandalism.

Authorities offered Becton to pay out of pocket, $1,180.50 in restitution, to remove the vandalism on the property and a truck that he spray-painted.

As of April 16th, 2024, Becton had not paid, and charges were filed.  Along with above charges, Becton will still have to pay the money back for the damages.
