$2.3 Million in State Grants Awarded to Schuylkill County Schools for Solar Energy Projects

Five schools across Schuylkill County are set to benefit from a major investment in renewable energy thanks to $2.3 million in state funding awarded through the Solar for Schools program, local lawmakers announced this week.

Senator Dave Argall (R-29), Representative Tim Twardzik (R-123), and Representative JoAnne Stehr (R-107) jointly revealed the grants, which will support the installation of solar arrays on school buildings and campuses to help lower long-term energy costs.

“I’m pleased to see Minersville Area and North Schuylkill school districts receiving grant funding through this innovative program,” said Rep. Twardzik. “Investing in solar energy with the assistance of these grants helps reduce electric costs for these schools. This program, along with continuing investment in legacy energy, will help ensure Pennsylvania has the energy needed for our growing economy.”

Rep. Stehr echoed the sentiment, highlighting the financial and environmental benefits of the initiative. “This grant funding offers Tri-Valley and Williams Valley school districts a valuable opportunity to expand renewable energy projects,” she said. “Lowering energy costs and encouraging sustainability are important goals that will benefit both our district and the Commonwealth.”

Sen. Argall emphasized the program’s long-term impact on taxpayers. “This bipartisan program will save taxpayers millions in the coming years,” he said. “I’m grateful these local schools secured these highly competitive dollars.”

The following school projects received funding:

  • Minersville Area School District – $500,000 for the Llewellyn Early Childhood Center

  • North Schuylkill School District – $500,000 for North Schuylkill Jr/Sr High School

  • Tri-Valley School District – $400,000 for Hegins-Hubley Elementary School

  • Tri-Valley School District – $400,000 for Tri-Valley Jr/Sr High School

  • Williams Valley School District – $500,000 for Williams Valley Jr/Sr High School

The Solar for Schools program is a statewide initiative designed to reduce energy costs for public schools by supporting the installation of solar technology on roofs or school grounds. The savings generated are expected to ease strain on school budgets and free up funding for educational programs and resources.
