The Blue Mountain Board of School Directors has announced the appointment of Dr. Jason Lilly as the district's next superintendent.
He will officially begin his tenure on July 1, 2025, following the retirement of current superintendent Dr. David Helsel, who will step down on June 30 after nearly 10 years of service.
Dr. Lilly currently serves as Lead Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction for the Lower Merion School District. Over his nine years in Lower Merion, he held multiple leadership roles, including Principal of the Lower Merion Virtual Academy and Secondary SIEM Supervisor, contributing to academic innovation and digital learning initiatives.
Prior to his work in Lower Merion, Dr. Lilly served as Assistant High School Principal in the Southern Lehigh School District and as K-12 Math Supervisor in the Wilson School District. His 13 years of classroom teaching experience continue to shape his student-centered approach to leadership.
In addition to his academic credentials, Dr. Lilly has been involved in extracurricular activities, having coached football and baseball in the Pottsgrove and Wilson school districts and served as a business advisor for a school newspaper.
“I am both honored and energized by the opportunity to lead Blue Mountain,” Dr. Lilly said. “I look forward to working with educators, administrators, community members, and the Board to build a future centered on innovation and opportunity for every student.”
Dr. Lilly holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education from SUNY Cortland, a Master’s in Education from Gratz College, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Pennsylvania Western University.
Board President Michelle Vesay welcomed the new superintendent and praised his experience and leadership qualities.
“Dr. Lilly’s deep understanding of teaching, learning, and leadership makes him an ideal fit for our community,” Vesay said. “We are confident he will lead Blue Mountain into a bold and promising future.”
The board also expressed appreciation for Dr. Helsel’s leadership since 2016.
“Dr. Helsel’s unwavering dedication has left a lasting legacy,” Vesay added. “His leadership has positioned the district for continued success. We thank him for his service and wish him well in retirement.”
