A former church building in Locustdale came crashing down Thursday evening, startling residents but fortunately causing no injuries.
Just after 7:00 p.m., the west wall and steeple of the former Saint Joseph Church — which later housed the Water and Spirit Church, then a secondhand store — collapsed without warning.
The church property is within the Conyngham Township, Columbia County portion of Locustdale.
Neighbors said the collapse wasn’t entirely surprising.
“The roof has been sagging” said one nearby resident. “You could see it was getting worse over the past year.”
It is unclear who currently owns the property or whether any further action will be taken to remove the remaining debris.
