Mahanoy City Man Allegedly Resisted Arrest After Domestic Incident Involving Thrown Safe

A Mahanoy City man is facing multiple charges following a domestic-related incident that took place on May 31, 2025.
Derek Davidson, 41, of Mahanoy City, has been charged with misdemeanor counts of Criminal Attempt – Simple Assault, Simple Assault, and Resisting Arrest stemming from an altercation with his wife at their home on West Market Street.

According to an affidavit filed by Patrolman Derek Weicikosky of the Mahanoy City Borough Police, officers were dispatched to the 600 Block of West Market Street around 4:13 p.m. on May 31st, 2025, for a report of a domestic disturbance that was no longer in progress.

Upon arrival, police met with the victim, who reported that during an argument, Derek Davidson threw a small safe in her direction, striking the wall inches from where she was standing.  The victim stated that had she not quickly moved into the kitchen, she likely would have been hit by the safe.

Officers spoke with Derek Davidson outside the residence, where he admitted to throwing the safe but claimed he was not aiming at his wife, insisting she was in the kitchen at the time. Police observed and later took possession of a SentrySafe, described as approximately 14 inches wide and weighing about 13 pounds. A hole roughly 6 to 8 inches long was noted in the wall, which Davidson confirmed was caused by the safe.

When officers informed Davidson that, per Pennsylvania’s domestic violence laws, he would be taken into custody, Davidson resisted arrest. According to the affidavit, Davidson refused to be handcuffed, backed against a wall to avoid restraint, and made threats of self-harm if placed in a police vehicle. Officer Weicikosky reported that Davidson required "substantial force" to overcome his resistance before being handcuffed. Once secured, Davidson continued to be agitated, demanding another officer or state police respond.

Davidson was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker on June 6, 2025, where bail was set at $15,000 unsecured, with a 10% monetary condition. He posted bail the same day.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 19, 2025, also before Judge Kilker.
