Mahanoy City Man Charged After Disturbance in Shenandoah

A Mahanoy City man is facing multiple charges following an incident early on June 9, 2025, in Shenandoah.
According to Shenandoah Police, Officers Applegate and Parker-Petrus were dispatched around 2:10 AM to 501 West Centre Street for a report of criminal mischief.

Upon arrival, they met with the homeowner, who reported that Jayson Hierro, 33, of Mahanoy City, had been drinking heavily at his residence and became combative when asked to leave. The homeowner told officers that Hierro punched and shattered the bay window of the home, causing approximately $650 in damage.

Roughly 25 minutes later, officers were called back to the same location after reports that Hierro had returned and was attempting to break into the residence.  The homeowner told police that Hierro smashed the front door window and leaned into the house in an attempt to unlock the door. The homeowner confronted him, at which point Hierro allegedly threatened to return with a firearm and shoot him.

While on scene, officers spoke to a witness, who stated that Hierro had fled into a nearby residence at 507 West Centre Street. The occupant of that address initially denied anyone had entered, but officers later observed Hierro inside the home. He was taken into custody without further incident.

While detained in the back of a patrol vehicle, police say Hierro repeatedly slammed himself against the door, damaging the vehicle’s frame and leaving bite marks on the door panel. Officers had to restrain him with a seat belt to prevent further damage or injury.

In total, damages to Batista’s property are estimated at $1,450.

Hierro has been charged with:
  • Felony Criminal Trespass – Break into Structure
  • Misdemeanor Terroristic Threats with Intent to Terrorize Another
  • Misdemeanor Institutional Vandalism of an Educational Facility
  • Misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct – Engage in Fighting
  • Summary Offense of Public Drunkenness and Similar Misconduct
  • Misdemeanor Criminal Mischief – Damage Property with Intent, Recklessness, or Negligence
Hierro was arraigned before on-call Magisterial District Judge Stephen J. Bayer, who set bail at 10% of $25,000. Hierro posted bail and was released the same day.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled before Magisterial District Judge Anthony Kilker on July 3rd, 2025.
