A Pottsville man remains behind bars after being charged with retail theft at Boscov’s in the Fairlane Village Mall earlier this month.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, troopers were dispatched to Boscov’s at 7290 Fairlane Village Mall on Thursday, June 6th, 2025, around 12:36 p.m., for a reported theft.
Upon arrival, troopers spoke with the Boscov’s Loss Prevention Officer, who reported that Jose Francis Cabrera Jr., 33, of Pottsville, was seen walking through the store, selecting a red 47 Brand Philadelphia Phillies hat and a Life Authorities portable speaker. Cabrera allegedly placed the items, valued at a total of $43.47, into a shopping cart and left the store without paying.
After exiting, Cabrera was confronted by store security and escorted back to the loss prevention office. During the investigation, it was discovered that Cabrera had previously been banned from the store following a prior retail theft incident on March 18, 2019. Cabrera had been officially notified of the trespass at that time, police said.
As a result, Cabrera was charged with Felony Retail Theft and Misdemeanor Defiant Trespass.
Troopers noted in court documents that this marks Cabrera’s ninth retail theft charge.
He was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge Edward Tarantelli and committed to Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $2,500 straight cash bail. Cabrera remains incarcerated awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for July 15, 2025, before Magisterial District Judge David Plachko.
