Pottsville Man Assaults Woman, Strangled Her with Shirt, Found with Methamphetamine

A Pottsville man is facing a list of charges following a violent domestic assault and drug seizure late Thursday night.

On June 5, 2025, at approximately 11:09 PM, Pottsville Police were dispatched to the 300 block of East Arch Street for a reported domestic dispute in progress. A 911 caller reported witnessing a woman being struck in the face by a man, later identified as 36-year-old Jason Able-Lewis of Pottsville.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the female victim at the entrance of the residence. According to police, the visibly injured woman told officers that upon returning home, she found her boyfriend, Able-Lewis, on the front porch with another woman. An argument broke out, during which Able-Lewis allegedly smashed the victim’s cell phone before punching her in the face "too many times to count."

The victim further reported that Able-Lewis then removed his shirt, tore it, and wrapped it around her neck in an attempt to strangle her. She told police that during the assault, she could not breathe and feared for her life.

Police documented significant swelling to the left side of the victim’s face, along with large scratches on her right arm and leg. During the investigation, a small child at the scene reportedly told officers, “my dad choked my mom with a t-shirt.”

Officers then made contact with Able-Lewis inside the residence. He admitted to having a confrontation with the victim and was taken into custody. During a subsequent search, officers discovered two separate bags containing a total of 178 grams of a crystal-like substance, which field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

As a result of the investigation, Jacob Able-Lewis is being charged with:

  • Strangulation
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Simple Assault
  • Recklessly Endangering Another Person
  • Criminal Mischief
  • Possession With Intent to Deliver a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance

Able-Lewis was transported to Schuylkill County Prison following arraignment by Magisterial District Judge Dave Plachko who set bail at $100,000 straight cash.
