Over 30 community organizations participated, offering activities, demonstrations, and information. Groups ranged from the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts to the Ashland Elks, who handed out free fire blankets. Other participants included Crossfire Youth Ministries, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, State Farm Insurance, Geisinger St. Luke’s, and Pennsylvania Canine Search and Rescue, which held a live search and rescue demonstration with one of their dogs.
Attendees had the opportunity to meet and interact with first responders from the Ashland Fire Department, Ashland Police Department, Butler Township Police, and Washington Fire Company Ambulance. Although Geisinger LifeFlight was scheduled to make a landing during the event, the helicopter was called away for an emergency.
Free hot dogs, pierogies, and water were provided to attendees throughout the night. Music for the event was provided by JB Sound.
Organizers say the event’s strong turnout for its second year is proof that Community Night is becoming a summer staple in Ashland.
