ASHLAND – A Saturday afternoon fire has displaced residents from their home on Walnut Street.
Just before 4:00 p.m., emergency personnel were called to 730 Walnut Street for a reported structure fire. Washington Ambulance, already on scene, advised of a working fire at the rear of the home.
Ashland Fire Department arrived within minutes and found heavy smoke coming from the kitchen area. Firefighters quickly worked to contain the flames, which were kept to the kitchen, though the home sustained significant damage.
Ashland Fire Chief Charlie Orth requested an additional alarm to bring in more manpower to assist at the scene.
No injuries were reported, but a cat inside the home died as a result of the fire. Officials said no one was home at the time the blaze broke out.
The residence has since been deemed unlivable. A State Police Fire Marshal was called to investigate and determined the fire was accidental, originating in the kitchen.
A GoFundMe has been setup if you would like to support the Fearon family who lived in the home.
The American Red Cross is also assisting.
