Pine Grove Area Hires Steven Zimmerman Jr. as New Head Baseball Coach

The Pine Grove Area School District has officially announced the hiring of Steven Zimmerman Jr. as the next head baseball coach of the Pine Grove Area Cardinals.

Zimmerman was approved during the August meeting of the Pine Grove Area School Board of Directors.

A 2014 graduate of Pine Grove Area, Zimmerman was a standout athlete in both football and baseball during his high school years. On the gridiron, he set the school’s all-time career sack record with 22.5 and quarterbacked the 2013 Cardinals to a 10-0 regular season and a Twin Valley Conference championship.

On the baseball diamond, Zimmerman cemented his legacy as the program’s all-time RBI leader with 85 and ranks second in home runs, highlighted by one he hit in the 2012 PIAA state championship game. He went on to play collegiately at East Stroudsburg University, where he earned multiple honors and recognition for his play. Zimmerman also spent a season in professional baseball with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the Independent American Association.

Zimmerman began his coaching career in 2019 as a varsity assistant at Pocono Mountain East High School before returning home to Pine Grove, where he has served as an assistant coach with the varsity baseball team since 2020. In addition to coaching, he has remained active in the community through volunteer work with Little League and teener programs.

Zimmerman succeeds longtime Head Coach Keith Lehman, who announced he will not return for the 2025-26 school year after a 25-year career leading the Cardinals.

With his appointment, Zimmerman becomes just the fourth head baseball coach at Pine Grove Area since 1970.
