Emergency crews responded Sunday afternoon to a house fire that displaced two residents on East Lloyd Street in Shenandoah.
Just after 2:00 p.m., fire personnel were dispatched to 227 East Lloyd Street for reports of a bedroom air conditioner on fire. Assistant Chief Selbi arrived first on scene and observed smoke coming from the second floor of the home. Firefighters quickly located a fire in a second-floor front bedroom.
The blaze was brought under control within 15 minutes of arrival. According to Shenandoah Fire Chief Rick Examitas, the fire was ruled accidental, caused by an overloaded electrical circuit.
Residents Rob and Bobbi Piekarski were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting them with temporary housing and support.
One firefighter sustained a minor injury during the incident. Everyone inside the home was able to escape safely.
The response included a first-alarm assignment with Pottsville’s Rapid Intervention Team initially dispatched but later canceled. PPL Electric Utilities also assisted at the scene by disconnecting power to the property.
