Minersville Police Department Launches Pink Patch Initiative to Support Breast Cancer Awareness

The Minersville Police Department is honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October with a meaningful community initiative.

Officers have redesigned their official department patch, replacing the traditional gold thread with pink to show solidarity with those affected by breast cancer.

Throughout the month, officers will wear the pink patches on their uniforms to recognize the strength and courage of individuals fighting the disease. In addition, the department has ordered extra patches, which will be sold to the public for $10 each. All proceeds will go directly to a member of the Minersville community currently battling breast cancer.

Patches can be purchased at the Minersville Police Department by contacting Chief Jeffrey Bowers. Officers will also host a table at the October 17 Minersville High School home football game, where patches will be available for purchase.

Chief Bowers emphasized the importance of keeping the effort local:

“I really wanted to keep the money locally and donated to someone in our community who could use it to help offset the financial strain associated with fighting cancer,” he said.

The department also announced that this initiative will continue annually. Each year, the police patch will be modified to support a different cause, with officers wearing the patch during October and proceeds from sales being donated to a local resident in need.

While the patch is priced at $10, Chief Bowers noted that additional donations are welcomed, with 100% of funds raised going directly to the recipient.
