BOYS BASKETBALL: Minersville Pulls Away Early, Defeats North Schuylkill in Division 1 Clash


Minersville Area used a dominant first quarter to set the tone and never looked back, defeating North Schuylkill 58–44 in a Schuylkill League Division 1 boys basketball matchup.
Minersville jumped out to a commanding 20–2 lead after the opening quarter and carried a 34–13 advantage into halftime. The Battlin’ Miners continued to control the pace in the second half, extending the margin to 50–27 after three quarters before closing out the win.

A milestone moment highlighted the night for Minersville Area Battlin' Miners, as Shazir Bethea scored his career 1,000th point in the first quarter. Bethea led all scorers with 15 points. Nolan Plesnarski added 14 points, while Chase Zimerosky contributed 12. Jordan Bowers chipped in nine points, Shane Fessler scored five, and Camden Rogers added three.

North Schuylkill was led by Jude Maziekas, who finished with 21 points, including five three-pointers. Cam Kacilowicz scored eight points, Julian Nelson added six, Caden Mengel had five, and Max Gallagher finished with four for the Spartans.

With the win, Minersville improves to 6–1 in league play and 9–1 overall, moving into second place in Division 1. The Battlin’ Miners will travel to Pine Grove on Thursday for another league matchup against the Cardinals.

North Schuylkill Spartans fall to 3–3 in league play and 7–5 overall. The Spartans will look to bounce back when they return home to host Tamaqua in another Schuylkill League Division 1 contest on Thursday.
