From John O’Hara to the Revolutionary War: Upcoming Programs at Schuylkill County Historical Society

A series of engaging history and literature programs is set to take place in the coming weeks at the Schuylkill County Historical Society, offering residents and visitors multiple opportunities to explore Schuylkill County’s rich past.

Local Reads Discusses John O’Hara Short Story

The Society will host a Local Reads book club discussion of John O’Hara’s short story, “Fatimas and Kisses,” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, at the Historical Society’s headquarters, 305 N. Centre St., Pottsville.

Society newsletter editor Lisa Von Ahn will provide historical context surrounding the story, while Kasey Owen, organizer of Local Reads, will lead the group discussion. The event is free and open to the public.

Annual Schuylkill County History Faire

The Schuylkill County Coalition of Historical Societies will hold its annual Schuylkill County History Faire on Saturday, February 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the Foursquare Gospel Church, 2300 Mahantongo St., Pottsville.

The event will feature more than 30 local historical societies, private collectors, and vendors, showcasing artifacts and displays highlighting the county’s heritage. Organizers say the faire provides a unique opportunity for the public to connect with local historians and history enthusiasts.
Admission is free to the public.

Presentation on Schuylkill County in the Revolutionary War

On Thursday, February 19, Revolutionary War historian Eric Troutman will present a lecture on Schuylkill County residents during the Revolutionary War. The program begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Schuylkill County Historical Society, 305 N. Centre St., Pottsville.
