Interstate 78 Closed in Both Directions After Multi-Vehicle Pile Up in Berks County


Interstate 78 is closed in both directions in Berks County following a multi-vehicle crash Saturday morning, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
State police report that a 12-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 78 at mile marker 39.1 in Greenwich Township near Lenhartsville. The crash involved four commercial vehicles and eight passenger vehicles.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene at 7:51 a.m. and are currently assisting with vehicle extrication efforts. Towing operations are underway.

At this time, the extent of injuries remains unknown.

Due to the crash and ongoing emergency response, Interstate 78 has been shut down in both directions. Traffic is being detoured onto Old Route 22.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes as crews continue to work the scene. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
