
In the first meeting of the season between two unbeaten Schuylkill League Division 1 teams, North Schuylkill used strong defensive pressure and a decisive second half to earn a 58–41 victory over Schuylkill Haven on Tuesday night.
Both teams entered the matchup 5-0 in league play, and the opening quarter reflected the evenly matched contest. Schuylkill Haven held an early edge, leading 11–6 after one quarter, as both teams traded turnovers and forced steals with active defense on both ends of the floor.
North Schuylkill found its rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring Haven 20–10 to take a 26–21 lead into halftime. The Lady Spartans continued to build momentum after the break, extending the lead to 43–31 by the end of the third quarter before closing out the game with a strong fourth-quarter effort.
Mya Conti led all scorers with 23 points for North Schuylkill, setting the tone offensively while also helping anchor the defensive effort. Gianna Capone added 14 points, while Addisyn Balicki scored nine. Monica Selgrade and Ella Digris each contributed six points in the win.
Schuylkill Haven was led by Audrey Hutchinson with 14 points, while McKenna Runkle added 13. Kylie Siket chipped in seven points, with Ava Terfencko, Braelynn Strenkoski, and Aubrie Wade rounding out the scoring.
Despite the loss, the Lady Hurricanes are expected to see North Schuylkill again, both later in the regular season and potentially in league postseason play. Schuylkill Haven slips to second place in Division 1 with an 8-4 overall record and will host Pine Grove Area on Friday night.
North Schuylkill remains perfect at 6-0 in Schuylkill League Division 1 action and improves to 7-3 overall. The Lady Spartans will travel to Tamaqua on Friday night for another key league matchup.
