Registered Schuylkill County Sex Offender Taken Into Custody Following Megan’s Law Violation Charge

A registered Tier 2 sex offender previously sought by West Mahanoy Township Police has been taken into custody, according to court records.
Michael Blanco Jr. was arrested on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in connection with a Megan’s Law violation stemming from his alleged failure to verify his address as required under Pennsylvania law.

Blanco was arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Judge James Reiley and subsequently committed to Schuylkill County Prison after bail was set at $25,000 straight cash.

The charge originated from an investigation initiated on January 6, 2026, after West Mahanoy Township Police received an investigation request from the Pennsylvania State Police Megan’s Law Unit. Authorities determined that Blanco, who was convicted of Indecent Assault in November 2014, is required to register as a Tier 2 offender for a period of 25 years.

Police allege that Blanco failed to report during a required address verification window between December 22 and December 31, 2025, at the Pennsylvania State Police barracks in Frackville.

Records at the time listed Blanco’s last known address as Room 30 at the Budget Inn on West Coal Street in Frackville. When officers checked the location, they were advised that Blanco had moved out several weeks earlier and was believed to have relocated outside the area. Additional records listed a Lancaster address associated with a driver’s license issued in 2022, though police were unable to make contact prior to his arrest.

Blanco is charged with Failing to Verify Address and Be Photographed, a felony offense under Pennsylvania law.

As with all criminal cases, the charge is an allegation, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
