The funding comes through Pennsylvania’s Grid Resilience Grants program and will be used to install an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system along with a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system. These upgrades will provide real-time data to borough officials and allow for faster detection and response to power outages.
Twardzik said the investment will help strengthen local infrastructure and improve service for residents, businesses, and emergency responders.
“This nearly $1 million investment in Schuylkill Haven will strengthen the borough’s electric infrastructure and improve reliability for residents, businesses and emergency services,” Twardzik said. “By supporting advanced technology that allows for faster detection and response to outages, this funding helps ensure our community is better prepared and more resilient moving forward.”
Argall emphasized the importance of reliable power in daily life and emergency situations.
“Reliable electricity is something every family, business, and first responder depends on every day,” Argall said. “This highly competitive funding will give Schuylkill Haven the tools to quickly respond to outages, strengthen its local grid, and better serve the community.”
According to officials, the new systems will improve monitoring and control of the borough’s electric network, helping to prevent outages and reduce downtime when disruptions occur.
The Grid Resilience Grants program is funded through the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and is administered in Pennsylvania by the Department of Environmental Protection. The award represents part of the program’s second round of funding.
All grant awards remain pending final confirmation by the U.S. Department of Energy.
