Schuylkill County’s top senior basketball players will take the floor one final time this Friday night when the annual Senior Charity Bowl takes place at Martz Hall.
The event will feature a doubleheader, beginning with the girls’ game at 7 p.m. and followed by the boys’ game at 8:15 p.m.
Players representing schools from across Schuylkill County will be split into North and South teams for both contests. The South squads are made up of players from Blue Mountain, Nativity, Pine Grove, Pottsville, Schuylkill Haven, Tri-Valley, and Williams Valley. The North teams will feature seniors from Mahanoy Area, Marian, Minersville, North Schuylkill, Panther Valley, Shenandoah Valley, and Tamaqua.
In the girls’ game, the South team will be coached by Williams Valley’s Shane Zellers and Pottsville’s Damian Fritz. The North girls will be led by Rich Wetzel and the North Schuylkill coaching staff.
For the boys’ game, the South team will be directed by Denny Kasper Sr. and the Williams Valley staff, while the North squad will be coached by Chris George and his assistants from Minersville.
Beyond the competition on the court, the event also serves a greater purpose. Proceeds from the Senior Charity Bowl benefit local Rotary, Kiwanis, and Lions clubs.
